Calypso 47″ O’Brien
Built by O'Brien Boat Works in Townsville, Queensland, the 47-foot O’Brien Calypso is a purpose-built blue-water sportfisher.
Originally launched as Castille, the vessel has since become widely recognised as Calypso, operating as the flagship fishing platform for Calypso Fishing Adventures.
The O’Brien 47 platform is renowned for its heavy-duty construction, practical layout, and fishability — traits that have made it a favourite among professional skippers and tournament crews.
This is a vessel designed to fish hard day after day — whether trolling heavy tackle offshore, running long distances to grounds, or backing down aggressively on big fish.
Captain Tim Dean’s long association with O’Brien Boats spans multiple vessels, having spent many years running the original Calypso, a 43-foot O’Brien, before progressing to the 47-foot platform.
Calypso is powered by twin inboard diesel engines, delivering strong cruising efficiency and the torque required for offshore runs and quick manoeuvring on fish. The powertrain is well matched to the hull, providing a comfortable cruising speed with ample reserve when conditions demand it.
The cockpit is the heart of the boat — and on the O’Brien 47, it’s unapologetically built for fishing. Spacious, uncluttered, and functional, it provides the working room required for multiple anglers, crew and tackle.
Below deck, Calypso offers practical live-aboard comfort suitable for extended offshore trips and multi-day charters. The interior prioritises function while still providing a comfortable retreat after long days on the water.
